Between 2010 and 2015, we explored many different ways of bringing the Tamil
community together in the UK. We organised meetups, icebreaker sessions, family
days in the park, shared lunches, badminton tournaments and cricket matches.
Although these activities created enjoyable moments, they did not always inspire
the deeper sense of connection and unity we had hoped to build.
Reflecting on his early experience as a school cultural secretary, our founder,
Karthik Kamalakannan, returned to something that had always remained close to his
heart, the powerful beat of the Parai.
The Parai is more than a musical instrument. Its rhythm has accompanied Tamil
communities through important moments of life, carrying messages, gathering
people and giving voice to collective emotion.
